ECONOMICS OF VARIABLE RATE PLANTING FOR CORN AgEcon
Lowenberg-DeBoer, James.
This analysis works out the economic implications for variable rate seeding of the corn population response curves estimated by Pioneer Hi-Bred agronomists. Examples are developed for various mixes of low, medium and high yield potential soil, as well as for a range of seed costs and variable rate equipment costs. The strategies analyzed were: variable rate planting using agronomic recommendations for each yield potential zone, variable rate planting using an economic decision rule for each yield potential zone, an information strategy which sets the uniform planting rate at the highest population indicated by agronomic recommendations for any part of the field and a second information strategy which uses an economic decision rule for the whole field based...

Improving field management by machine vision - a review CIGR Journal
Taghadomi-Saberi, Saeedeh; Hemmat, Abbas.
Growing population of people around the world and thus increasing demand to food products as well as high tendency for declining the cost of operations and environmental preserving cares intensify inclination toward the application of variable rate systems for agricultural treatments, in which machine vision as a powerful appliance has been paid vast attention by agricultural researchers and farmers as this technology consumers. Various applications have introduced for machine vision in different fields of agricultural and food industry till now that confirms the high potential of this approach for inspection of different parameters affecting productivity. Computer vision has been utilized for quantification of factors affecting crop growth in field; such...

Nitrogen management in wheat based on the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) Ciência Rural
Vian,André Luis; Bredemeier,Christian; Turra,Marcos Alexandre; Giordano,Cecília Paz da Silva; Fochesatto,Elizandro; Silva,Jhonatan Alves da; Drum,Maicon Andreo.
ABSTRACT: Biomass production and nitrogen (N) accumulated in wheat shoots may be used for quantifying optimal topdressing nitrogen doses. The objective of this study was to develop and validate models for estimating the amount of biomass and nitrogen accumulated in shoots and the N topdressing dose of maximum technical efficiency in wheat using the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) measured by an active optical canopy sensor. Field experiments were carried out in two years and treatments consisted of N doses applied at plant emergence and as topdressing. NDVI, shoot biomass and N accumulated in shoots at the growth stage of six fully expanded leaves and grain yield were evaluated, being determined the topdressing N dose of maximum technical...

Soil tillage and sugarcane planting: an assessment of cost and economic viability Scientia Agricola
Amorim,Fernando Rodrigues de; Patino,Marco Tulio Ospina; Santos,David Ferreira Lopes.
ABSTRACT Yield and profitability levels in sugarcane crops demonstrate the importance of the agricultural practices adopted, especially for soil preparation and planting systems. This study evaluated the costs involved in 40 alternative methods for the establishment of sugarcane crops resulting from the combination of eight soil preparation systems and five planting options, followed by an assessment of the economic viability of sugarcane production for suppliers and sugar mills. Data were collected from 31 sugar mills and 42 suppliers in São Paulo State, Brazil, from the 2016/17 season. The cost analysis and discounted cash flow analysis were used to calculate economic viability. Localized soil preparation with a fixed application rate of inputs (soil...
